Ten sentenced of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of disseminating false claims regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A circulating false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens disregarded any factual proof disproving her claim opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The couple married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
